As urban environments face increasing environmental pressures, living roofs offer opportunities to improve the vitality and viability of our designed spaces. Developed through a directed study at the University of British Columbia’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (UBC SALA), Living Roofs: A Comprehensive Guide was created as an accessible starting point to aid Landscape Architecture and Architecture students in understanding the purpose and potential of living roofs in the built environment. The blog aims to clarify key concepts, introduce relevant and viable strategies, and encourage thoughtful consideration of the environmental, technical, and social dimensions of living roof systems.
