Mise-En-Scene of Psycho

  • Film: Psycho
  • Year: 1960
  • Director: Alfred Hitchcock
  • Characters include: Marion Crane is a real estate secretary who decides to steal from the company in order to help her lover, Sam Loomis, from his debts. She decides to stop at the Bates Motel and this is where she meets Norman Bates. She agrees to have dinner with Bates in the parlour and decides to drive back to Arizona to return the money in the morning. While is the shower, Crane is murdered and it’s up to Lila Crane  and Loomis to try to solve the mystery of Lila’s missing sister.
  • Reason: I chose this film because the shower scene is one of the most iconic scenes not only in the horror genre, but also in all cinematography. Hitchcock uses many cinematic elements that add to the impact and popularity of the film.
