A Reform to Education? <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

I sit in my Social Studies classroom with many students behind me<\/p>\n

Gazing through the windows that bind me,<\/p>\n

Walls so high I cannot find me,<\/p>\n

With thoughts so influential I know other students will mind me.<\/p>\n

We speak about the planet and global warming as a kind breed,<\/p>\n

Yet on every single day this seed of knowledge confines me.<\/p>\n

Because how can we be educated,<\/p>\n

From our seats when in reality really,<\/p>\n

Every day we come to class listening,<\/p>\n

To our beats that have nothing to do with info,<\/p>\n

That informs me of the world around me,<\/p>\n

But instead misinforms the mind that lies within.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are part of a larger institution,<\/p>\n

That sets out to free and liberate us all,<\/p>\n

But yet, when our thoughts don\u2019t converge they deliberate with us.<\/p>\n

It is as if they are trying to,<\/p>\n

Configure us, but what they don\u2019t realize is what they,<\/p>\n

Are really doing is disfiguring us.<\/p>\n

In fact, we are all measured on a standardized testing scale,<\/p>\n

According to which if we don\u2019t memorize we are a fail.<\/p>\n

But is the percentage on the top of my paper,<\/p>\n

Really an indicator of my success?<\/p>\n

Because really this is all a really big ugly mess,<\/p>\n

Had I had another minute I could have,<\/p>\n

Performed my best, the predictor,<\/p>\n

Is just a test.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Don\u2019t drive to school, and cut down on,<\/p>\n

Usage of greenhouse gases, and power,<\/p>\n

Turn off all lights when not in the room,<\/p>\n

But then why do they not turnoff the classroom overhead,<\/p>\n

It has been decades by now, shouldn\u2019t that,<\/p>\n

Have already been long dead?<\/p>\n

I guess what I am trying to say,<\/p>\n

Is there not another method by which we can be feed?<\/p>\n

Because there are only so many videos I can,<\/p>\n

Watch on good old TED,<\/p>\n

But what does this have to do with med,<\/p>\n

This class is so boring I would,<\/p>\n

Rather go to bed, but instead I\u2019ll walk home,<\/p>\n

In my Keds, because this info has led me,<\/p>\n

To believe, do your part or this planet will be dead.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Can you imagine how amazing classrooms would be if we were really allowed to breath?<\/p>\n

Without any constraints or restrictions by teachers on how to be the lead.<\/p>\n

Only freedom of speech and individuality,<\/p>\n

That suits and prepares us for the world around us.<\/p>\n

Information that really informs us about the,<\/p>\n

Larger, social world that really surrounds all of us.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What I am calling for is reform,<\/p>\n

Of an education,<\/p>\n

That is now long outdated,<\/p>\n

To one that is now more current.<\/p>\n

Because it is time,<\/p>\n

To now give the students back the power,<\/p>\n

To take control of their,<\/p>\n

Own education, in which they,<\/p>\n

Promote their own interests and unique passions,<\/p>\n

By which means they choose to live their life.<\/p>\n

So maybe it is time that we,<\/p>\n

Step back, and allow students to take control,<\/p>\n

And learn in a way, in which they feel liberated,<\/p>\n

Educated, knowledgeable, and free.<\/p>\n

A classroom where students feel at ease, and at great peace,<\/p>\n

Where they are not converging, but informing<\/p>\n

That should be school.<\/p>\n
