Sleek, black knock-off brand sunglasses stick to my face<\/p>\n
Around my brow,<\/p>\n
And sweat\u2019s beading upon my forehead now<\/p>\n
Above them, fighting hard to stay in place<\/p>\n
Beads of sweat begin to trickle down slow.<\/p>\n
I am done with this heat; it\u2019s time to go.<\/p>\n
Essence of Summer is thick in the air,<\/p>\n
The scent of salt water: drowning my thoughts.<\/p>\n
Fixed in the classroom I think it unfair<\/p>\n
And frankly absurd that I am not free<\/p>\n
To run to the beach to take some snapshots<\/p>\n
Enjoying life, spending time by the sea.<\/p>\n
I marveled at the thought, smile on my face.<\/p>\n
But I must say<\/p>\n
Walking to class does fill me with dismay,<\/p>\n
And by Tuesday<\/p>\n
Who knows what form my dreaming will embrace.<\/p>\n
Ocean waves grand and small, come to meet my toes<\/p>\n
On the sand, cool and fresh,<\/p>\n
Each wave casting away all of my woes.<\/p>\n
The Sun not only shines his rays of light,<\/p>\n
He kisses my skin and tempts me to stay.<\/p>\n
But he betrays me; his kiss burns my flesh.<\/p>\n
And I keep returning to the beach, to<\/p>\n
The Ocean\u2019s spray<\/p>\n
Of lies and broken promises; untrue!<\/p>\n
But I have had my fill<\/p>\n
Of the Summer\u2019s myths and fables galore,<\/p>\n
No more late night escapes up to the shore.<\/p>\n
Nights go by and I hear the laughs, so shrill<\/p>\n
And carefree, not tired or full of fright.<\/p>\n
I might<\/p>\n
For what it\u2019s worth,<\/p>\n
Take Summer back into my embrace, wary<\/p>\n
Of the deceit, lies, and deceptions yet<\/p>\n
To be unearthed.<\/p>\n
One can know what troubles me,<\/p>\n
The longing in my voice must make it clear.<\/p>\n
Why must it be<\/p>\n
So, that the bright Summers of yesteryear,<\/p>\n
Long, dreamy, full of excitement and glee,<\/p>\n
End with a dim sunset.<\/p>\n
