How death makes or allows us to see things that weren’t available to be seen before. That’s a good way to summarize the novel.
Also, interesting links with previous readings.

Yes, this novel is a picture of miscommunication and failure to connect (in life) isn’t it?
And I like the comparison with Proust. (Both books are also about memory, too, of course.)
Plus there’s a double temporality, both of which are more or less linear… in the past, as you point out, the narrative is more or less from youth to maturity. And in the present, too, we see the various people arrive to see her body, and also the different stages she seems to go through between her “first death” and her second.
