{"id":71,"date":"2009-06-30T08:41:49","date_gmt":"2009-06-30T16:41:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/louisethomson\/?p=71"},"modified":"2009-06-30T09:13:42","modified_gmt":"2009-06-30T17:13:42","slug":"wiki-mania","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/louisethomson\/2009\/06\/30\/wiki-mania\/","title":{"rendered":"wiki-mania&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\">Thanks to the MET program I have a fair bit of experience with working with a number of wiki platforms.\u00a0 Here are a few that I have created individually or as\u00a0part of group &#8230;<\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For ETEC 510 I authored this page on <a title=\"Information Literacy Wiki\" href=\"http:\/\/sites.wiki.ubc.ca\/etec510\/Information_Literacy\">Information\u00a0Literacy<\/a>\u00a0as part of a collaboratively created design wiki.\u00a0 As I am concurrently working on achieving a specialization\u00a0in Teacher-Librarianship the\u00a0issue of new literacies is one that I am very interested in.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-79\" title=\"etec_510_information_literacy_wiki1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/louisethomson\/files\/2009\/06\/etec_510_information_literacy_wiki1-1024x710.gif\" alt=\"Information Literacy wiki\" width=\"1024\" height=\"710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/louisethomson\/files\/2009\/06\/etec_510_information_literacy_wiki1-1024x710.gif 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/louisethomson\/files\/2009\/06\/etec_510_information_literacy_wiki1-300x208.gif 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/louisethomson\/files\/2009\/06\/etec_510_information_literacy_wiki1.gif 1087w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Information Literacy wiki<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here is one for ETEC 511 on the Economics of\u00a0Educational Technology&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\"><a href=\"http:\/\/economics-etec511-64b.pbworks.com\/FrontPage\">http:\/\/economics-etec511-64b.pbworks.com\/FrontPage<\/a><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here\u00a0is a\u00a0wiki that I worked on for ETEC 512 on\u00a0Cognitive\u00a0Learning theory&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/etec512cognitivelearning.pbworks.com\/\">http:\/\/etec512cognitivelearning.pbworks.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">\n<p>\u00a0Reflection&#8230;This work in the world of wikis has inspired alot of enthusiasm for the use of wikis\u00a0in my future classrooms.\u00a0 The ability to work collaboratively while creating a polished and attractive finished project is one that has a huge number of benefits for students and teachers.\u00a0 Not insignificant in this lesson\u00a0is the opportunity to\u00a0demonstrate for students how\u00a0easy it is for anyone to publish information on the web and the subsequent need\u00a0for critical analysis of the source of all information that they\u00a0encounter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\">In my own work with these wiki platforms I found them to be unanimously user-friendly and intuitive.\u00a0 The use of\u00a0 a WYSISYG environment makes them usable for students even at the\u00a0mid-primary level.\u00a0 The most surprising aspect of wiki creation was the number of freely available sites to use.\u00a0 With decreasing budgets the school districts are unlikely to spend any money they don&#8217;t deem &#8220;necessary&#8221;
