BIO

Hi Everyone, My name is Lucy Li. Here is a brief description of me, my academic life so far and my professional interests.

I was born and raised in Belize and moved around in different countries to complete school. By meeting many people and learning about their culture and environment, I have developed a passion for interacting with and helping others. This led me to complete a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in HAFA (Hotel and Food Administration) from the University of Guelph in Ontario in 2021. Throughout my academic years completing the degree, I have networked with many industry professionals and made connections with many people in the industry. During one of the summers, I worked at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, where I had my first insight into working in the industry. I also did a full year of co-op placement at Frankie Tomatto’s, an Italian buffet restaurant located in Markham, Ontario. I developed my leadership and customer service skills and enjoyed helping customers improve their day.

Since the pandemic has affective the industry, there was a lack of job opportunities, and I started to think of other ways to help others. I worked at a call centre to help people in Ontario book vaccine appointments. At the same time, I took an introduction to programming course. This was when I realized that creations in the technology field will help others and improve their lives. So here I am, pursuing a second bachelor’s degree in computer science at UBC and working towards being a software developer in one of the FANG companies in the future. I hope to create technology that would benefit all industries and positively impact others.

Reach out to me if you want to connect with me and talk about anything interesting.

Lucy.
