Lachelle provides a thoughtful reflection on her take on journal writing and how literacy affects us in different ways. While I was going through her manuscript, I really enjoyed her stream of consciousness and how she added illustrations to her text. This made me want to read more. Her style of writing made it easy and I connected to it. I can almost hear her because of the oral-like and human qualities she has added to her writing. At the beginning of her manuscript, she added the significance of writing to her and how it is particularly vulnerable to share personal writing. ANONYMITY is BEAUTIFUL caught my attention and it resonated with me. I loved how she also made the point that literacy can impact the way we feel. Government and authorities would use literacy and text to impose control – something that I nodded in agreement.

Similar to Lachelle, writing is cathartic and almost therapeutic for me. It is for me to share my thoughts and ideas without judgement or care and the entries are meant for me.

“I use it as a way to express myself; not limited by lines on a page, where I can make illustrations in the margins, write non-linearly and get thoughts out of my head. I have volumes of these codices dating back to highschool. These thoughts and entries are rarely (if ever) shared with anybody, and are meant for my own processing—a safe place to reflect.”

I really liked how Lachelle made the point that written text and computer-mediated print (especially from an inkjet printer) are susceptible to lost entries when they come in contact with water whereas computer-mediated writing can be reproduced easily and saved in many places. The innovation and advancement of technology have progressed and changed how documentation is done and passed on.
