Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline is a project to construct pipeline from Alberta to the coast of BC to ship oil to the Asian market. However, the pipelines are planning to build on its reserve. As a result, many BC aboriginals are taking it to court to against this over $65 million project.
Even the Enbridge Company has claimed that 60-per-cent of first nation on the route has signed the agreement, but there is no doubt that first nation could have a serious effect on Enbridge act as an external threats. Since the Indian Act indicated that the government has the ability to take control over aboriginal’s land.
With the development of the society, more conflicts between government and the first nation would come above the water. In order to keep developing a better society and culture heritage, we should find out a way to balance the government and aboriginal group.
