Business Ethics
Business environment is relative to people and society so business ethics are necessary for business operations. Dimension and aspects for business ethics are diversity and various. Personal morality can affect business while social problems do as well since business is operated in the entire human society. Fraud, tax, finance balance, public opinions, labor human rights and management are all related to business ethics problems.
What I want to mention is the sustainability about business ethics. Sustainability is significant for the society and even the world. Business can not only concentrate on the benefits for recent years but for a long-run development. A piece of news in 2015 about Tesla showed that Tesla is now leading the sustainability charge as a large vehicle company in the world.
Tesla and its founder Elon Musk have been paving the way for sustainable innovation in the automotive industry, renewable energy generation and beyond. Tesla’s sales records have shown the potential for a thriving electric vehicle market. The iconic Tesla Model S reached 10030 salesin the first quarter of 2015, a year-on-year increase of 55%.
Tesla’s Powerwall battery pack was hailed as a breakthrough for home renewable energy. The battery was priced at $4,000 for the base model and aims to store energy for the home from solar panels.Even better was the announcement by Musk that Tesla would be doubling the power capacity of the standard Powerwall at no extra cost. The battery’s capacity would be doubled from 2.2kw to 5kw, claimed to be enough to power the entire house, unless the household are using energy draining air conditioners. Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources once it is completed. Tesla aims for its factory to produced 50GWh of batteries by 2020, enough for 500,000 cars while achieving net zero energy for the factory. In an almost unprecedented move. Last year Musk announced Tesla would not pursue lawsuits against anyone who wants to use their technology to improve sustainable transport. In a blog post last June, Musk wrote: ‘We believe that Tesla, other companies making electric cars, and the world would all benefit from a common, rapidly-evolving technology platform.’
Tesla is doing well in both doing vehicle business and making efforts in sustainability. That means doing business is not only for ‘money’ but also for human society right now and the future. Some companies only want to make money but ingore the problems about human society and globe environment. As the awareness of environment which we live has recently been more and more concerned, making profits and money is something basic in business while managing business a more environmentally sensitive manner is important as well in business ethics.
