In reading “looking behind the stereotypes of the angry black women” I can say that i have gained a little bit of insight of how some black women view interracial relationships. Especially one between a white and black person. The women from the article express some form of resentment towards these relationships for many reasons. The one i found interesting is the feeling of rejection. To many of the women in this study “interracial relationships between Black men and white women and their children represent rejection because these relationships, along with incarceration, drug abuse, and homicide, are viewed as the source of the shortage of marriageable Black men.” I believe black women are hurt because, not only are they (usually) not found attractive by the other races, now Black men choose to date other races. It seems as though they are have become second choice for their own people. This hurts. To them, this rejection makes them undesirable and it HURTS.
In 2013, a dating app revealed racial preference based on the people the members of the website responded to. It showed that Black women are the least desirable race. This helps explain why Black women seem to be against interracial relationships.
Rejection of black men/women from other black men or women causes these black girls especially to hate their skin. To view their bodies as impure,dirty and unwanted. Such demeaning thoughts eventually become ingrained in the heads of black people. I do not side with some black women showing anger at interracial relationships, but i can understand now why some of them express such anger.
