Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) are continuing efforts, begun in 2014, to consider the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) application in Mongolia.<\/p>\n<p>In spring 2015, the group will focus on structures and initiatives to create local engagement with the EITI, as well as support for reporting at the local, or sub-national, level.\u00a0 Local-level reporting is a new EITI requirement, which means there is significant room for students\u2019 creativity in imagining or recommending solutions and initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>The 2014\u00a0<strong>Asia Pacific Policy Project<\/strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The 2014 Project is a joint initiative of the Institute of Asian Research (IAR) and the Norman Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering \u00a0at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada. \u00a0As a collaborative policy research group, we are interested in mechanisms of government transparency in mineral resource development as it relates to unprecedented growth of the mining sector and human development in Mongolia. Our main mechanism of study is the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI) in which Mongolia is a participating and compliant member.<\/p>\n<p>Through cooperation with\u00a0civil society, governmental and mining\u00a0stakeholders in Mongolia, we seek to identify policy mechanisms for discouraging corruption and improving human development in Mongolia.
