The Advantages and disadvantages of online shopping during thanksgiving deals.

The advantages of online shopping during Thanksgiving weekends:

  1. The main advantage is the availability  of deals.
  2. Easy to compare the deals in various websites
  3. Need not have to wait in queue to check the availability of stock
  4. You can make use of the time in a better way
  5. You can have all your family members with you to help you with your purchase decision
  6. Will get better package compared to retail outlets, as e-commerce saves lots to the seller

The disadvantages of online shopping during thanks-giving weekends:

  1. You cannot try your products before you purchase
  2. Not all the products in the shop will be available online
  3. Most of the good deals will be on the old stocks
  4. You cannot bargain as some shops have bargain and auctions for antiques
  5. The logistics of the purchased goods will be a night mare for the courier companies as the quantity of goods that was ordered online will be few time higher than that of the normal days
  6. There are more chances of delay in delivery and loss of package during the shipment
  7. After all most of the purchases with thanksgiving deals are no returns or no exchange policy as you seize the product deals to be available to others on that day.

Some believe that it is not that attractive to buy on a thanks giving day. Last year I purchased a Hollister Jeans and later found out that there are some torn patch. I couldn’t return it because it was purchased on the deal. Those holes in the pants are made purposely to look stylish. But those holes let the cold air inside and made me shivering during a rainy day.

My MBA orientation at UBC

After waiting for more than 20 days in my room, helping my friends to get some accommodation and connecting with new friends in Vancouver I finally attended the UBC MBA orientation with lots of back to school expectations.

The day started well with a hi-tea and our professor kick started the full time MBA orientation in the presence of our new dean Bob. The classes went well and I looked at my watch only 3 times before it is a lunch break and the session. We were served with packed lunch and I am excited to measure the thrills of high ropes.

In the high ropes I volunteered for the first exercise and enjoyed climbing the ladder and walked across the hanging ropes. After a couple of high rope and low rope activities we as a team started to understand each other and interact with as many people we can. It was a memorable day in my life. I wish I had few more games sessions with my classmates.

From Tuesday the classes started and we were attending orientations of various subjects and the classes proved Einstein’s theory of relativity. The lunches were organised in the following order : Tuesday : Indian food, Wednesday : Japanese food, Thursday : Greek food and barbecue lunch on Friday. It was announced that we can bring guests for Friday lunch. I brought a talented school student residing near my house to give him a exposure of a good business school environment.

After the classes, on Friday I was chosen as one of the lucky draw winner and I got a nice steel water bottle with a SAUDER logo. Unfortunately it had a small hole in the bottom. I hope I can exchange it in the UBC bookstore. From the beginning everything was a different experience and it was really interesting to attend the orientations.

The classes of leadership, good business and creativity modules gave new insights on few other extracurricular activities as well.

The orientation program also gave way to understand how the classes will be held and how to submit an assignment and this blog is also an outcome of the orientation assignment (believe me it is 3.15am when I wrote this blog). I was able to connect well with the administrative staff and as many students I can. Though I felt it difficult to understand few North American and British accents I believe I will soon get used to that.

We ended the Friday with a Boat cruise event with almost all of our classmates and some seniors attending it. This is called as the honeymoon period of our MBA and I strongly agree with that.

See U in my next Dry and Vague blog. TC.
