Will Google Docs kill off Microsoft Office?

Posted by in Uncategorized

Microsoft Office has been one of the world’s most useful software, corporations and individuals rely on it everyday. Microsoft has always stockpiled “large amounts of cash” from Office productivity software suite sales. However, in the past year “Microsoft has made it easier for consumers to access Office via the cloud and online downloads.”

Google Docs first made their appearance in 2006, however it was not as widely used or known. Cloud based services were not as popular and the support for Office formats was minimal. Ever since then, Google Docs has been slowly improving and is now a “legitimate threat to Microsoft”.

However, Google Docs is an Internet based software, it can only be used by Gmail users and cannot be used in most other corporations. Moreover, most companies already organize their calendars with Microsoft Outlook. Microsoft Office 365 integrates cloud technology into their desktop allowing people to access their files anywhere without Internet. Google Docs will most probably not kill off Microsoft Office as it has already established a name especially for corporations, however, through personal experience; Google Docs is more useful for personal usage. Google Doc’s personal revenue will not be higher than the corporate revenue.
