The relationship between marketing and advertisements

Advertising is very important for a business. Its ideas are closely related to its marketing targets. “Doing business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark.  You know what you are doing, but nobody else does.” (Steuart Henderson Britt) In my opinion, the difference between unethical and ethical advertisements is that an unethical advertisement uses false information to persuade consumers and an ethical advertisement uses truth to persuade consumers.

Here is an example of an unethical advertisement. This advertisement is created by a company called Sisley. Obviously it is a clothing company. However, in my opinion, the image and ideas they use are very illegal and unethical. It clearly exemplifies two girls that are snorting some form of drug that most likely is cocaine. The caption “fashion junkie” seems to correlate the idea of being fashionable with drug use. This advertisement gives the society, especially the youth, a wrong idea that it is actually “OK” to take drugs and quite frankly they may think so many people are using drugs these days that even companies like Sisley advertise it in public.

These kinds of advertising would create a bad image for its company and can actually push away its  potential customers.  Therefore, it is an example of a bad marketing team. Have a good weekend guys~~!
