Our CURE Courses

MICB 471 – “Wet lab” experimental research  experience

The wet lab CURE will be offered in 22W in both term 1 and  term 2.  This one term course will offer projects related to synthetic biology, molecular microbiology, and applied environmental microbiology/functional genomics.  We will also offer immunology projects in term 1, however, these projects will be capped at 12 students and assigned by random draw at the start of term in September.  Defined project areas (i.e. seed research papers) for MICB 471 term 1 and MICB 471 term 2 will be posted at this blog later in the summer and late fall, respectively.

MICB 475 – “Dry lab” experimental research  experience

The dry lab CURE will be offered in 22W term 2 only.  Students in this one term course will conduct novel investigations of publicly available amplicon sequencing data sets produced through microbiome studies.  Students will access a server and use the QIIME2 bioinformatics pipeline to process their data.  Using principles of microbial ecology, students will address their unique research questions via analysis with QIIME2 and R.
