About Me
Un pocito de mi. (A little bit about me)
My name is Megan Buyks (nee Dreeshen) and most commonly known to my students as Señora Buyks.
I am a High School Spanish teacher at HJ CODY High School in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
I am mid-way through my MET journey here at UBC and am very impressed with the scholarly level of discourse that I have experienced thus far. I hold my undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta in secondary education, majoring in PE and minoring in Spanish. I have also taken two graduate level courses through the University of Calgary. I can now say that I’ve covered my ABCs in regards to education (or at least educational facilities). I am very much looking forward to travelling to BC this summer and visiting our campus.
I love to travel. This winter my husband and I visited family in California and currently have friends from Holland visiting. This summer my husband and I will be traveling in Europe visiting family and I’m planning on taking a group of my Spanish students to Spain in April 2011. All in all a very busy travel schedule (especially with course work in between, but I guess that’s one of the beauties of online classes!)
I am currently working on creating hybrid courses for my classroom and focusing on various forms of differentiated instruction available. I have created a course shell for my Spanish 10 students using Moodle and will be working on putting the finishing touches on it this summer. I have also starting creating fully online courses for my Spanish classes and will have my grade 10 course up-and-running by September and my grade 11 and 12 courses ready to go for next Febuary.
I am also a ‘muscian’. I play the piano and have started (very beginner) to learn the guitar. I would also like to learn the violin, but I think that I may need to wait until I’m finished my degree before I start learning in ernest!
