Yes, we want to get the highest quality for the lowest price. But who actually thinks where the cheap price is coming from? How can brands afford to sell at such lower prices?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/gap.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-46\" title=\"gap\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/gap-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/gap-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/gap-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/gap.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Many brands have had scandals with maquiladoras, including GAP, Levi&#8217;s, Old Navy, Puma&#8230; but not all have solved their problems. Although Ocean Sky has made some progress, abusive treatment has been reported. According to\u00a0<a title=\"Maquila Solidarity Update - Sept. 2011\" href=\"http:\/\/en.maquilasolidarity.org\/sites\/maquilasolidarity.org\/files\/2011-09-MSN_Update.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Maquila Solidarity Update<\/a>, a worker gains wages that almost cover one quarter of a family&#8217;s basic needs. Previous studies have revealed workers gaining <a title=\"Maquila's Abuse of Women\" href=\"http:\/\/ww4report.com\/node\/8557\" target=\"_blank\">$6 (U.S) daily<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/haiti-maquila.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-48\" title=\"haiti-maquila\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/haiti-maquila-300x201.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/haiti-maquila-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/haiti-maquila-447x300.png 447w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mdelosrios\/files\/2011\/10\/haiti-maquila.png 778w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Duty-free and tariff-free materials are being imported to be manufactured,\u00a0and then re-exported to be sold. Yet, workers are being abused.
