Hi my name is Meagan. I am a teacher candidate in UBC’s Bachelor of Education Program. My subject specialties are IB and Business Education.
My goal is to become a teacher for secondary school students who are interested in business studies. I’m a graduate from the Asper School of Business (University of Manitoba), where I received a degree in commerce. Since then, I was hired by Magellan Aerospace where I’ve worked in their Marketing and Business Development Department for the past three years.
Prior to working for Magellan Aerospace, I was able to gain valuable teaching experience working as a camp counsellor at the Manitoba Developmental Centre (MDC). Here I was able to effectively create and adapt educational and recreational programs for young adults with a range of disabilities. I also had the opportunity to create weekly scheduled programming for the deaf and blind, and worked closely with a team to implement the curriculum. While employed with the MDC, I was also the lead in the design and constructing of a “Sensory Stimulation Room,” a place that the camp residents used to stimulate their senses. The room was popular among the clients and remained a fixture at the camp years later.
I plan to use my professional background as an important teaching tool. While working in the aerospace industry, my responsibilities have included; strategic business plan development, proposal preparation and management, contract negotiation, and the promotion of business unit products and services to target customers. I was also accountable for; budget formulation, development of marketing plans and materials, new business growth, and industry tradeshows. I feel that my extensive business experience will allow me to excel as an instructor for secondary school students interested in business studies. I am able to speak first-hand about various levels of a multi-national company, this would prove to be a valuable asset when helping students prepare for their own future studies and career paths.
