IB Teaching Philosophy

IB aims for students to be open-minded global citizens who through intercultural understanding hope to make the world a better place.  My teaching philosophy aligns well with the philosophy of the IB.  The IB focuses on best teaching practices and the development of 21st century teaching and learning strategies; such as inquiry, concept-based learning, and the teaching of skills versus knowledge. Teaching through inquiry challenges students to learn how to learn on their own. I believe education is about helping new generations gain the skills and problem solving techniques necessary to become well-rounded global citizens.

Learner Profile

The profile aims to develop learners who are:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

The learner profile is a dynamic concept intended to nurture respect for oneself, others, and the world around us.

IB Core

I am excited about getting involved in the IB core.  The core focuses on the development beyond academics.  Every class has a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) component.  TOK motivates students to ask challenging questions, think critically and develop the research skills necessary for higher education.  The IB core also encourages students to become active members of their community through Community Action and Service (CAS).  The core’s extended essay component allows students to investigate a topic of special interest to them.  This enables students to become engaged in their own skills development through a meaningful learning process.
