I think having students engaged in learning is vital to their success. That means providing students with opportunities to pursue their passions and interests while at the same time covering the learning objectives.

As an educator it is important to build a good rapport and trusting relationships with students. The classroom should be a fun, upbeat place where relationships are fostered.  I believe that having the right attitude is also very important and think enthusiasm should be part of “school-life.”  I am excited about influencing student’s lives and take responsibility in making a positive and lasting impact.

It is my sincere wish that every student that passes through my classroom can become an independent, responsible, self-motivated individual, and I will strive to help students become critical thinkers and assist them in gaining personal growth and enhancing their unique abilities.
Teachers should be life-long learners and enable their students to be life-long learners’ as well.  I take pride in learning and teaching, and have a desire to continue to grow and develop this passion for education.  Teachers have a responsibility to put forth effort to stay in touch with the trends of the age groups they are teaching, as well as new technologies, and educational pedagogies.

Good teachers have passion, not only for their subject areas but also for the learning and overall growth of students.  Education is not about imparting wisdom from the teacher to the students, but rather helping new generations gain the skills and problem solving techniques necessary to become well-rounded global citizens.

Business studies are important for every student as the aspects of business can be found in everyday life.  Essential life skills such as budgeting and personal finances are taught in business education.  Business education also prepares students for post-secondary schooling, and employment.  Staying current is even more vital in business education as the field is ever changing and there is a constant flow of new information.  Incorporating technology in the classroom is vital, as is utilizing current events, and pop culture, or other topics that the students can relate to.

Business concepts can be taught by linking content to the “real-world;” and providing practical information and assignments.  I think hands on and experiential learning lends well to business education.  Teachers must attempt to expose students to new ideas and situations. They must also provide opportunities to learn through experience. Field trips, guest speakers, and case studies, are a few methods to achieve this.

The profession of teaching has changed drastically from the old “stand and deliver” mentality.  The status quo has been interrupted and 21st Century learning and teaching of skills versus knowledge has become paramount.  It is exciting to see what how the world of education will evolve in the years to come!
