UBC Meditation Conference 2016

Following up on our sold out conference last year, we are very excited to announce the second annual UBC Meditation Conference!!

This year our theme will be “The Multiplicity of Meditation” – it is very often forgotten that the word “meditation” encompasses a wide variety of practices – we often speak of meditation as if it is one thing, but this is certainly not the case!

As such, at this year’s conference we would like to emphasize the diversity of existent meditative practices. Attendees will be able to learn about, and get hands-on experience with, multiple different styles of meditation, and get practical advice on how to start a daily practice and integrate meditation into their lives.

We’re hoping that by exposing attendees to a number of different styles, they’ll be better equipped to choose what suits them the most!

Our conference will begin with a keynote presentation from Jerry Chapman, who is the director of the Vancouver Shambhala Meditation Center and also a Tibetan Buddhist lama.

This will be followed by a hands-on workshop period, in which attendees may choose 1 of the following 3 workshops, which have been specifically selected to cater to differing interests:

An Expressive Art Meditation workshop with Maria Trujillo and Samuel Romero

A Self-Compassion workshop with Sarah Jarvis

A Zen Meditation workshop with Gareth Sirotnik

Following our workshop period will be a presentation by Hanson Ng, who will be representing Bodhi Meditation Vancouver.

And then, to close the conference, we will have a presentation from Tom Heah, who is an occupational therapist and a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, which will serve to ground all that has been discussed in the day – allowing attendees to leave with the confidence to start, or deepen, their life-enriching practice.

Don’t miss out on this unique immersive experience into the world of meditation – peace of mind, tranquility, and enhanced concentration await 🙂

The conference will occur on UBC Campus on March 20th from 10:00am to 4pm!
