Hello everybody! My name is Megan Cameron, I am currently in my fourth year as an English major at UBCO.I have always loved literature and reading for as long as I can remember so it seemed only fit to pursue a degree in English. This is my second semester doing only distance education courses as I just had my son in October of last year. Though I am not very technologically advanced I am excited to be using a blog style learning environment in hopes that at the end of the course having all of the information I have studied and my peers have contributed in one space will help me not only retain the information better but also get to virtually know everyone else in the class better (as I did not know anyone in my last semester of online classes). After going through the syllabus and the class blog I am excited to get to know more information surrounding settlers and the indigenous peoples of Canada through literature and class discussion. I am also looking forward to learning more about the difficult topics surrounding indigenous peoples and the Canadian government throughout history. I think that by using stories and other forms of literature to learn about our history as a country is one of the best ways to gain a better understanding of some of the historical moments because of the way different authors can express what is going on around them. This course surrounds itself with stories, how we as readers interpret them, which stories we hear more often and the impact they have on the people of our country. The relationship between stories and literature will be developed throughout the duration of this course and will better our understandings as students.
