Hello!
My name is Megan, and I am a musician and educator currently completing the Master of Educational Technology (MET) program at the University of British Columbia. My background is in jazz performance and education, and I studied jazz bass at McGill University in Montreal before moving to Vancouver to complete my Bachelor of Education at UBC.
I currently run an extensive high school music program with a strong emphasis on creativity, collaboration, and international exchanges. We have brought our student learning all over the world through performance tours in Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, The Czech Republic, France, Italy, Croatia, Japan, South Korea, and Cuba. Through my teaching, I am continually exploring ways to support student agency, musical identity, and real-world learning experiences.
As part of my graduate studies, I am working to expand my knowledge of educational technology and its role in music education, particularly the connections between technology, cognition, creativity, and inclusive learning design. This blog serves as a space to reflect on my learning in the MET program, share classroom practices, and critically examine how emerging technologies can be used thoughtfully and ethically to enhance music teaching and learning.
Other than teaching and performing, I am a single mom to an amazing 15-year-old daughter who just started high school this year as a grade 10 and I love spending time outdoors. Whether it is hiking, canoeing, paddleboarding, or camping, I love to disconnect and get out there!
