Day Four

Today, was a very busy day in the kindergarten classroom we did Halloween centers.  This consisted of the class being divided into four groups (A,B,C,D). These groups which consists of 5-6 kids were then added with 5-6 children from the other 3 kindergarten classrooms. This allowed the children to interact with students from different classrooms. Each group then went to a different classroom to participate in an art activity. Each teacher created a different art activity and would model it to the students and then they would complete it. The groups would rotate twice per day for two days so they could create each craft and visit each classroom. I decided to go to different classrooms to experience different techniques of teaching as well as to explore various classrooms. It was interesting to see that although each teacher taught similar material they presented it in a different way. There were teachers that were loud and energetic, ones that gave step by step instructions, and ones that taught the whole craft first and then let them complete it. I noticed that certain children responded well to certain ways of teaching whereas others struggled with the exact same teaching method. This showed me that there isn’t one correct way of teaching as every student learns differently. I think as a teacher you need to teach in a way that is genuine and fits with your personality.

During KIPP time, the vice principal read a story about Halloween and the students were asked to draw what they were going to be for Halloween. I enjoyed talking with my students about what they were going to dress up as. I love how some of the characters I dressed up as for Halloween are still popular such as Belle, Cinderella, and Spiderman.

Towards, the end of the day I read them a story about a flying witch which they all seemed to really enjoy! They are all very interested in what I am going to be for Halloween but I told them it’s a surprise! I cannot wait to see the students all dressed up for Halloween!
