Springtime Poem Lesson Plan

Grade: Kindergarten

Big Idea:

  • Language and story can be a source of creativity and joy

 

Curricular Competencies: What students will DO Concepts & Content: What students will KNOW
Students will be able to

·         Find the words in the poem we are discussing

·         Accurately colour/underline the words using the correct colour/shape

·         Read the poem alone with little to no assistance

 

Students will know the following concepts and content

·         Students will know how to read the poem

·         Students will know which words in the poem rhyme

 

 

Materials & Technologies

Students will use the following materials, tools, equipment:

  • Poetry Books
  • Pencil
  • Crayons
  • Worksheet of the Springtime Poem
Pre-Class Preparation

The teacher will need to make the following preparations prior to the class(es)

  • Get Splish, splash, Spring By: Jan Carr out of the library
  • Print photo copies of the Springtime poem
  • Write the Springtime poem on sentence strips and get pictures to go with the words

 

Rationale to Lesson: This lesson will be taught as an introduction to Spring. The picture book will be a hook for students to get them interested in the various things we can see during spring.

 

Assessment/evaluation

As I am giving out instructions on what to colour/underline I will be going around to ensure the students are able to:

·         Find the words in the poem we are discussing

·         Accurately colour/underline the words using the correct colour/shape

 

 

Adaptations/Modifications

Some modifications may be:

• To give students ample time to complete the activity

• Students can ask their classmates for help
