{"id":49,"date":"2011-10-08T14:57:21","date_gmt":"2011-10-08T21:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/?p=49"},"modified":"2011-11-14T22:28:46","modified_gmt":"2011-11-15T05:28:46","slug":"durex-condom-house-party-new-marketing-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/2011\/10\/08\/durex-condom-house-party-new-marketing-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"Durex Condom House Party- New Marketing Strategy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/workingonyourfitness.com\/apply-to-host-a-durex-girl-talk-house-party\/https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/header.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-50\" title=\"header\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/header-300x111.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"111\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/header-300x111.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/header-500x186.png 500w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/header.png 816w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>While big brands such as Kimberly Clark, P&amp;G, and Kraft continue to pour their money into advertising through T.V. commercials and pop-ups online, smaller scale companies such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.durex.com\/en-gb\/products\/condoms\/Pages\/CondomHomepage.aspx\">Durex Condoms<\/a> are sponsoring small house parties all across the US to create buzz around their products; a great marketing strategy that make ordinary hosts feel like they have won a free party in their house when in actuality they are hosting a big\u00a0advertisement.<\/p>\n<p>In February of 2011, Durex Condoms sponsored over 5,000 house bashes organized by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.houseparty.com\/\">House Party<\/a>, a marketing firm specialized in throwing these events. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/magazine\/content\/11_07\/b4215030210139.htm?chan=innovation_branding_top+stories\">Their event was called &#8220;Durex Girl Talk House Party: Valentine&#8217;s Day Edition.&#8221;\u00a0It included an array of coupons, samples and &#8220;free\u00a0corporate\u00a0swag<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thriftywifey.com\/free\/house-parties\/host-a-pull-ups-potty-dance-house-party\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-51\" title=\"Screen-shot-2011-01-03-at-9.03.42-AM1\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/Screen-shot-2011-01-03-at-9.03.42-AM1-300x194.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/Screen-shot-2011-01-03-at-9.03.42-AM1-300x194.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/melissachau\/files\/2011\/10\/Screen-shot-2011-01-03-at-9.03.42-AM1.png 451w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now that these brand bashes are popular, and proven to be more cost efficient than traditional advertising strategies, Kraft and P&amp;G are slowly following in Durex&#8217;s footsteps by sponsoring parties as well. Just in March, Pull-Ups diaper brand sponsored the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/magazine\/content\/11_07\/b4215030210139.htm?chan=innovation_branding_top+stories\">&#8220;Potty Dance Day&#8221; house party<\/a>.
