As a Geographical Sciences major I hold a keen interest in the landscape of our Earth and the ways in which it changes. I spent much of this past summer travelling, which included vising Mount Haleakala National Park in Maui, Hawaii. Standing at the crater of the volcano I realized how small and insignificant I felt looking at this incredible and vast landscape, and I gained a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the small blue dot we call home. I believe that studying the Earth’s geography is very important in helping us better understand multiple disciplines within science and the arts and I am very excited to embark on that journey myself. I am very interested in developing my hands-on skills in a field environment, and over the course of my studies I have become particularly fascinated with the movement and geomorphic impacts of glaciers. Therefore, rather unsurprisingly it is a personal dream of mine to be able to visit and perhaps even study the glaciology and physical geography of Iceland. Whether I am using geospatial data and GIS, working in a lab, or visiting field sites, I am excited to use my degree after graduation to find a career that will allow me to explore the landforms beneath and around us, and that will broaden both my personal and professional horizons.
