5. Protect Yourself

One of the consequences of the popular use of digital technology has been an unfortunate increase in cyberbullying and related activities. This can take many forms such as:

  • Distribution of intimate of sexual pictures without the consent of the people involved
  • Criminal harassment
  • Uttering threats
  • Intimidation
  • Identity fraud
  • False messages, indecent or harassing telephone calls

Fortunately, there are legislations in place to prohibit these actions and therefore protect individual rights.

Check on the following link to explore the existing legislations by the Canadian government: What are the potential legal consequences of cyberbullying?

Next page contains the last activity for this lesson, which is a Reflection Exercise. In order to prepare for this activity,  let’s think about the following questions:

  • Do we have responsibility towards our well-being and that of others around us when it comes to our involvement in using technology?
  • Is enough being done to protect us?  Are there any other issues that need to be addressed?

Now let’s move to the following Reflection page to reflect upon everything we have covered so far.
