Reflection IV

Throughout all my lessons that I delivered I found the way the truly works great for me.

I tried many ways to deliver a lesson. Delivering lessons ranging from me talking mostly to the students talking mostly to one activity to many activities. What I found works great is I have a quick intro outlining the plan for the day, start off with a joke or something to lighten the mood a bit and focus the students attention. After have a group brainstorm on the topic we are discussing. Then have a hands on activity for the students to work on followed by a worksheet discussion. I found having self paced learning with brainstorming and focus on individualized learning works very well for me. I like going to each student and ask them questions, then ask them follow up questions.

Having students have a positive learning experience and take a hold of there learning is something I found works. Individualized learning also works as well and discussing to each student there strengths and weaknesses when needed is also great. The students that I taught were very pleased with the way I taught them. I had students that I did not teach ask me questions and hang out in the shop after school to ask me questions about math, science and other subject fields.

I really felt my impact on the extra curricular activities in the school were a big help to my success in the school.

Practicum reflection III

Teaching, from all the lessons I have taught, I have learned many lessons from my lesson. One the biggest is taking it slow. I know the information and the students might have never heard of what I am talking about. Another is relating the information to something the students know and relating it to other subject fields. Also to ask students questions, the students formulate questions and ask from views that I might have never thought of before.

One of the ways I find works very well for me is to teach the students one on one. Teach the class the bare bone basics and the safety in the shop classes. Then I go around and work on each students strengths and work on some weaknesses. That way the teaching is more personal and the students don’t feel like the are getting push through like a factory and I can tailor the learning to the student.

I find it to teach not in learning styles because I do not believe in learning styles. Although individuals maybe proficient in learning a certain way it is great to develop the individual as a whole. Giving them as much feedback as possible, giving them questions and following up on those questions down the road. Teaching using all the senses are a great way of feedback because we are humans and the more sensory feedback there is the more chance they can retain the information.

Practicum Reflection II

During my time teaching, I have had many great learning experiences and found out my strengths as a teacher. I found out that having a safe and learning environment is key for students to learn. Having an interest in all the students is important as well. Maintaining dialogue and interest is important in the teacher and student relationship. I learned that confidence is also important when delievering a lesson. Even though the information might be wrong or you say something wrong. If you are confident and tell the students oh I made a mistake. It shows the students that you are human and it could be a learning experience for them and you as the teacher.

I found that my biggest weakness is my introductions and conclusions. So I am going to have to work on that. My biggest strength according to what others have told me is I have a great working relationship with the students, my lessons are engaging and entertaining and I am very professional. With that all I have to do is work on my weaknesses and I will be Great Teacher Holzmann!

Automotive Reflection

For Automotive I came up with a unit that I believe to be fantastic. The unit consist of buying, selling and transferring a car, along with what to do before a road trip and what to bring.

I could also build on the unit and add what to look for when buying a used vehicle. Give the students a few scenarios to work on in class and have verbal exams.

Being in Northern British Columbia it is important to make sure the vehicle is maintained and the proper tools are available. Sometimes there is no phone service and not very many people on the highways.

Electronics Reflection

I plan on teaching in Northern British Columbia and electronics parts and resources are hard to come by.

This is a link to some electronics kits, the kits come with all the pieces to build what you need.

It is a great idea to order kits because all the parts come with it and it ships to the location.

I picked electric guitar effect pedals because playing guitar is a hobby of mine and manipulating sound is always fun.

This is another site that is great. It has schematics and kits.

This next site I plan on using with the students to teach them about sound theory and show what happens to sound.

Any circuit can be made and you can see what is happening.
