Teaching Philosphy

What is a teacher? A teacher to me means a guide, a pointer to self-development and self-discovery for students. For example, you have a guide with you when you are hiking through the Swiss Alps. The guide is showing you the path. You must walk the path; the guide does not walk the path for you. Just as a teacher shows the students the path; the student makes a choice to walk the path. One of my main philosophies is to assist the students to overcome each of their problems and learn to genuinely enjoy life. We are all human beings, we need to enjoy life and create a tight community. With mental illnesses, stress, and depression being a big factor in life, I firmly believe that having positive learning environment to be ideal. There are some students out in the world that need a role model and someone to give them that push they need.

My biggest influence to become a teacher was my uncle. He was not an educated man in the sense of formal schooling, but he knew what life was about and knew what was really important. He showed me what it means to be a teacher, truly alive, assisting someone who is struggling and to help people in life, not just in the classroom. He taught me life lessons, which I find just as or often more important than lesson plans. A student can take away far more especially if the class is positive experience. To add as well, all classes are all related to each other in one form or another.
