This project, funded at UBC Vancouver, integrates creative storytelling into an entry-level microbiology course to enhance student engagement and retention.
We have crafted three narratives for learners in MICB 211. These stories were developed to enhance the learning experience in the course. They feature bacterial and human-centric characters to help students engage more intimately with the material. By using bacteria illustrations as narrators, we aim to connect the content to real-world contexts. Our goal is to stimulate dialogue among students and promote a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Click below to read the narrative.

Our comic narratives are published under a Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives (CC BY-NC-ND) license. This means you are welcome to share and use the comics in your own educational, outreach, or personal contexts as long as you credit the original creators, do not use them for commercial purposes, and do not modify or remix the original material.
