Last time I introduced EVO and their recent flood of marketing at the UBC Point Grey campus, but there’s still more to be known!

Mercedes for you. Mercedes for me!

The car share market is still relatively new with international giants car2go and Zipcar being founded in the early 2000’s. Only in 2009 did car2go expand to North America. Now a little healthy competition from companies like EVO are giving consumers more purchasing power.

In response to EVO’s four door focus, car2go announced on September 25 that they will be introducing a series of 4 door Mercedes vehicles to their Vancouver fleet. However, the cars being introduced are still inferior as EVO’s Toyota Prius come standard with roof racks. The Mercedes definitely appear to be for comfortable family transportation rather than EVO and their emphasis on activity.

This is great for car share users overall as non users are given more options and existing users are rewarded with improved service. Not only do we get better cars, we also get more of them! Overall, EVO’s marketing and expansion efforts have certainly raised the bar.

Do it better than the rest!

EVO has built more than a superior car. EVO has built an active lifestyle brand that relates to their target customers. A simple look at their website evo.ca shows the numerous activities that EVO helps you get to with their cars. Whether it is rowing, hiking, or skiing their cars can get you there. In comparison, the car2go website predominantly focus on access and convenience.

These brand values extend to their numerous booths and activities. Compete for prizes while playing giant Jenga, take a photo in their picture booth all while at your favourite football game, concert, or beer hall. When was the last time you were at the bar and saw a car2go booth? EVO is steadily driving the standards of service and experience in all channels.

What’s the next destination?

EVO’s social media is currently quite stagnant. It will be interesting to see how EVO can ride the wave and continue to develop the brand and its customers. However, my biggest question is still what will happen IF Uber and other cab-esque companies can enter the market. Will this expansion turn into a recession? Lets see.
