Hobbits at Work: Trades and Handicrafts

We hobbits have practiced many trades and handicrafts throughout our history, including clothmaking, metalworking, blacksmithing, masonry, viticulture, winemaking, aleĀ  and beer brewing, carpentry, and ropemaking. Our leathery-soled and thickly-haired feet means we have little need for shoes or boots, and so shoemaking is the only craft that we do not commonly practice.
