{"id":4,"date":"2011-01-19T15:27:37","date_gmt":"2011-01-19T23:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mikaylachan\/?p=4"},"modified":"2011-02-01T18:40:13","modified_gmt":"2011-02-02T02:40:13","slug":"4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mikaylachan\/2011\/01\/19\/4\/","title":{"rendered":"Networking through facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Facebook_features\">Facebook is a social networking website that allows people, all around the world, to connect with their friends through photos, wall posts and private messages<\/a>.&#8221;\u00a0As\u00a0I was multitasking; thinking and contemplating about how I was going to come up with something to write on my marketing blog while logging on Facebook to see who knows what, something caught my eye, a status update that one of my Facebook friends had posted. It was a \u201cplaces\u201d application status post. Beneath the status were \u201ccomments\u201d and \u201clikes\u201d from not a lot, but a definitely a few people. Facebook is used for a multiple of different reasons. Some may use it to connect with old friends, some to keep in touch with family and best friends, and others, let\u2019s be straightforward (everyone has done it) to \u201ccreep\u201d your friends, or maybe not your friends, but your so called \u201cFacebook friend.\u201d Without doubt, Facebook has become a part of several people\u2019s everyday lives. Updating your status doesn\u2019t only let you boast about what you\u2019re doing, or allow you to vent whatever\u2019s on your mind, it allows you to share where you are. The application on the iPhone known as \u201cPlaces,\u201d allows you to \u201ccheck in\u201d to a restaurant or into a location (for example: Mikayla Chan is at Roger\u2019s Arena). As you \u201ccheck in,\u201d your friends can also \u201ccheck in\u201d to the same place, and before you know it all your \u201cFacebook friends\u201d now can see where exactly you are on their \u201cnewsfeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With this new application right at our fingertips, it not only to our advantage that we get to boast about where we are to our Facebook friends, but it also allows restaurants and businesses to have free advertisement and promotion. With this \u201cPlaces\u201d application it is allowing businesses to easily turn all types of customer\u2019s, whether they are first time customers or loyal customer, into an advocate customer (a person who spreads the word about your product).
