Port Metro Vancouver
Port Metro Vancouver has stated that they have interest in building a Second terminal at Roberts Bank. Their main focus in building this terminal is “to provide additional long-term capacity to this growing sector” which in turn would increase their profits. Oppositely, I agree with the Municipality of Delta, that Port Metro should build an inland terminal in Ashcroft, increasing their triple bottom line, not just their bottom line.
The most important factor in this development is the environment. By eliminating between 217000 to 650000 truck trips annually, and shipping containers via the railroads, which is a much cleaner way of transportation, they would be eliminating a lot of carbon emissions going into the environment. Also, it would eliminate the need to develop great agricultural land near the Roberts Bank terminal.
Furthermore, developing the terminal in Ashcroft would help the people in the Interior by creating many job opportunities and undoubtedly attract other investments and developments which would drastically better the Interior’s economy as a whole.
Building the terminal inland would allow Port Metro to financially grow and expand their business creating an increase in profit and therefore bettering their bottom line.
This concludes that Port Metro should build their terminal inland as it would improve their triple bottom line.
