What’s the Main Attraction?

In Carlene’s blog, she writes about how corporate social responsibility is becoming an important factor in deciding on which company to work for. Personally I strongly disagree with this. I believe there are multiple other factors in which employees will look at before they look at CSR. Don’t get me wrong, CSR is definitely becoming more prevalent, and employees will take it into consideration, but other than for a small percentage of people, it is often just a bonus in deciding where to work.

I feel there are several more important factors employees will consider while choosing a job.

The largest factor I believe employees look at is Human Resources. An employee will always think about whether they will enjoy being in that company’s work atmosphere, whether or not they will like working with their coworkers and bosses, and the benefits they may or may not receive at that job. Another huge factor in job decision is money. Let’s face it, the world we live in is run by money and this will always be one of the biggest factors of picking a job. Also, many employees consider their ability to move in that business. If they do well, will they be able to climb the ranks and gain some seniority. Therefore, these factors along with others like the experience they will gain, proximity to home, job content, and working hours, in my mind, will all be stronger factors when deciding where to work than CSR.
