English 301 Technical Writing is an online course that teaches and creates practice for writing in business, professional, and technical contexts in varying situations and working groups. This course lets students practice their writing that is directed at a specific audience in the working world and also allows them to review and be reviewed by other students. The first unit we are to form writing groups and focus on writing different types of business correspondence. The second unit we will be designing and submitting a report proposal in our teams and peer reviewing them which is the first stage of the formal report. We will also be using the website LinkedIn for building an online resume. The third unit is the next stage of the formal report by drafting, revising and re-drafting the formal report. This unit also include using the UBC careers website and designing an application for a suitable career supplemented by LinkedIn.
I am very eager for this course because I think that it cover some very important areas of English that are otherwise skipped over in other classes and settings. I think that the course content will be very beneficial from a professional standpoint and I am eager to start applying the skills that I will learn in this course to my life and career continuing on after university. I have had previous experience with LinkedIn and think that it is a great networking tool and a great way to get your resume out to more people. I am excited to learn more about professional applications and growing my networking circle at the same time.
