Is it really low cost? lol u never know how much u have to pay

YouTube Preview Image

Pay for seatbelts on your flight? Sounds unrealistic?

It is true in more airlines, especially Low Cost Airline, people find they have to pay more than they have expected for the service they thought would be free (not for seatbelts XD)

The low cost products/service can always be associated with low price and attract price-elastic consumers while those consumers often don’t realize this.

LANVIN for h&m~!!!!? OMG is Lanvin crazy=P

YouTube Preview Image YouTube Preview Image

Lanvin and h&m are going to release their new high fashion collaboration line on Nov, 20th in 200 stores and in other locations on Nov, 23rd~~!!!!  Although H&M is a comparatively lower-end store, it has already done cobranding with several luxury brands such as Stella McCartney and Jimmy Choo. But this time it’s completely different: it is LANVIN!!

I was always wondering what those luxury brand firms expect from the collaboration lines because cobranding is supposed to be a win-win strategy while brands like Lanvin seemingly can get nothing from the cooperation. Lanvin doesn’t need to worry about its sales or enhance its popularity. On the contrary, the collaboration may even make Lanvin not as luxury as it was.

According to the first short video above, Lanvin is willing to do cobranding with H&M because Lanvin hopes to translate the dream that they created at Lanvin to  a bigger audience. It wasn’t a project about a dress for less.

However it is really good news for us consumers. Now we can buy a $200 Lanvin dress in H&M stores when before we could only buy a most common Lanvin T-shirt at the same price. A Lanvin dress only around $200!!!!!! That is really amazing, and maybe a little absurd. But why not, there is no harm to consumers YEAH~~ I am still going to H&M on the day Lavin for H&M is released, and try to find something for myself.

Although the man in the first video said it was H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin was going public…… Hmmm, well, I hope so.=P

“social media marketing” for small business

YouTube Preview Image

Above is a video of rap about social media marketing~

Social media is proved to be a great idea for small business 😀

lyrics below:
I messed my keywords up,
lets see if I can fix that
from page 1 to page 13, lets see if I can get back
lose traffic and lose money, you know that I can’t have that
social networks everywhere, where can I put my ads at
fix my SEO up
I’m trying to get back anything
fix google, no more Yahoo, they results come from bing
several profiles on ning
adding links to everything
sharing links on delicious, social bookmarking
expecting me to retreat
I won’t accept defeat
write a new blog post, put it on twitter, can I get a retweet
hashtag fb, selective tweet to facebook
hasttag blogtitle, you know what it is before you take a look
how much time will I spend, trying to make my topic trend
not too much if they don’t like it, well they don’t like it then,
more followers and more friends
haven’t reached my peek yet
checking all my social sites in one place, tweetdeck
pay per click on facebook,
include it in my marketing
cost less than google adwords and its highly targeted
locally, I look for deals, call me cheap, I don’t care
check me out on foursquare, if you want to go there
got so many profiles, sometimes I can’t stand it
bebo, myspace, virb, black planet
I stopped using all them years ago, they old and they outdated
never got into yammer, and google wave never made it
talk about what I do use
where do I begin,
facebook, tumblr, youtube, linked in
vimeo, yelp, technorati, flickr
stumbleupon, digg and I’m almost tired of twitter
you get the picture
I won’t say no more,
the internet changed its all about sharing, web 2.0
on the road or at home
mac book or on my phone
down with google android, no blackberry no iPhone
all my profiles updated
all my sites integrated
find me or my product easy I just demonstrated
this ain’t the game you should be playing if you can’t fade it
I ain’t made it yet, so don’t ask me how I made it
I do this everyday still on the hunt for my next check
mac book pro on deck
checking the web for the next tech
your best bet don’t fret yet
no sweat if its no threat
strategically planning all your moves, chess set
you add friends confirm, their interest in your project
link all your profiles to the site where they can buy that
go try that, and come back
make friends with who you’re targeting
get a buzz and it goes viral, social media marketing

Manufacturer brands Vs. Private-label brands~~

YouTube Preview Image YouTube Preview Image

Studies show that private-label brand products tastes as good as (sometimes even better than^o^) manufacturer brand products. i never thought it was possible!!! Manufacturer brands are always my first choice because my experience of some private-label brands was extremely terrible(those Private-label brandts which mimic a manufacturer brand in appearance are referred as Copycat Brands in our textbook). It is those copycat brands that bring discredit to premium brands (which is also one category of private-label brand) with comparatively low price and same/high quality or generic brands (no-frills product with lower price).

Private-label brands ≠ low quality

The blind test in the two videos can prove everything~~

COLOURS in branding ^-^

YouTube Preview Image

When consumers are faced with differentiated goods, it is brands that help them make quick decisions. Many strategies are used to create or reinforce brands in consumers’ mind while people always ignore the power of colours in branding.

In the short video, it shows why the colours play an essential part in branding:

(1)Colour is a powerful branding tool;  (2)Colour bolsters your brand attributes;  (3)colour enables brand recognition;  (4)colour evokes emotion;   (5)colour helps you stand out from competitors.

Every colour has its own deep meaning, and can help convey the brand culture to consumers. Colours can sometimes even stand for one brand like orange to Hermes, and red to Coco Cola. However it is not easy to build these associations without advertisements and promotions.

Packaging!!!

YouTube Preview Image

Packaging is one of the important factors that affect our purchase decisions, especially the wrapper and exterior carton which is referred as secondary packages in the textbook. Secondary packages always provide the product information that we need and give us the first impression of the product/brand. Branding images are gradually reinforced. In addition to the function above, packages also protect or help the products keep in storage. Some manufacturer produces packages which are not easy to open in order to reduce the cost during transit.

As it shows in the short video, we always find it annoying when trying to open those packages.Although some packages are not that hard to open, sometimes it is indeed inconvenient  to open without scissors. More firms have found the importance of ease of opening, especially for things like snacks. Are you going to buy the cookies for a second time if you cannot open it without scissors but desperate to eat it LOL? Absolutely no, at least for me.

Storage is another factor that should be taken into consideration when they design the packages. Innovations in design such as individually sealed subpackages are great ideas. This helps keep the freshness of the food and makes it convenient to bring.

I will never buy any products that are not easy to open or store. And that is why i think packaging is important to marketing.

product placements in movies/shows/videos……~

YouTube Preview Image

Movies, TV shows and music videos are rapidly becoming vehicles for the ulterior marketing and advertising motives. There are at least 9 obvious product placements in Lady Gaga’s 9-min MV, Telephone.

Unlike traditional advertisements, product placement is a kind of covert advertising. We will not notice the existence of advertisements when focusing on the story or the music. Subliminally, audiences are influenced by the advertisements, which increases the market demand of these products. The best example is the online store that was mentioned in Sex and the City. The store called Bag Borrow or Steal obviously benefits a lot from product placement. (“Sex and the City” and the handbag marketing business) That is why companies are willing to pay for the placements.

At the same time, product placements can be a win-win strategy for the movie/show investors. It makes the movie more realistic when the things used by the main characters are what we can find in daily life. In addition, investors could get more budgets and profits. No wonder that investors are giving company’s the chance to buy ‘spots’ in their movies/shows.(product placements in movies)

However, product placements are now regarded as a phenomenon of hypercommercialism in movie industry. More and more investors are overly taking advantage of it that it gradually becomes annoying for the audience.

Product placement can be a win-win strategy as long as it is made use of. After all, movies/shows are supposed to be art, not long commercials.
