Welcome!
This is my blog page for English 301 Technical Writing. This course involves the study of the principles of written and online communications in business and professional contexts. The course content, as well as the text Technical Communication 15th edition, will enable us to write professionally and perform self and peer reviews of our work. Whatever your job description, there is an expectation that at some point in your career you will be evaluated on your oral and or written communication skills. Being a student with a background in dental hygiene, the benefits of a program like this present itself in many ways. Dental Hygienists require technical writing skills in order to maintain precise records to protect ourselves and our patients, this includes the maintenance of our daily IPAC logs (Infection prevention and control). Technical writing skills will help facilitate transactions with different Insurance companies, as we are often requesting information regarding our patient’s coverage or advocating on behalf of our patients by submitting predeterminations for treatment required to achieve or maintain optimal health. The role of a Dental Hygienist is interdisciplinary; therefore, this writing course can aid in corresponding with other health care professionals, as we make referrals or requests. My hope is that this course will allow me to be better equipped to handle the professional writing requirements of my job, as well as assist in my current endeavors as a student. My future goals involve a role in academia, so I believe this course is paramount now more than ever as the educational platform shifts from in person to online learning, and we find ourselves communicating in written form more than face to face interactions.
I look forward to learning from you all this summer 🙂
