Hello ENGL 301 class! My name is Miranda Hoang, but my close friends and family call me Mandy. I am currently enrolled in the Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program here at UBC. I originally obtained my Dental Hygiene diploma in 2005 from Fanshawe College in London ON and I have been working as a clinical dental hygienist in London ON ever since. Learning how to be a student again has been challenging and rewarding to say the least. My aspirations of achieving my bachelor’s degree and maybe even someday my master’s degree aligns with my goal to one day set down my scalers and move into more of an instructor/educator role. My hope is to become a role model for future dental hygiene students by providing an environment that is conducive to learning and growth, while educating and bringing awareness to the oral/systemic link.

I know our biography is to focus on our academic and professional interests, however I would be neglectful if I did not touch on my personal life as well since they are the driving force for my personal and professional growth. I married my high school sweetheart in 2006 and we have three wild, beautiful, and wonderful children, and to round out our pack we have a 5-year-old chocolate lab who is my loyal early morning running partner.
