We created geometric shape artwork using paint, painters tape and small canvases during our geometry unit.
For our African themed art project we created Massai inspired necklaces out of styrofoam plates and paint. The necklaces have sacred meaning to the Massai peoples and they carefully select beads that represent the traits they wish to convey in the necklace.

The students chose the colours that symbolized traits that they wanted to possess and used them to decorate their own Massai style necklaces.
For Earth Week we studied ways that we can help take care of our planet. We read “Sandy’s Incredible Shrinking Footprint” by Fermida Handy and got lots of great ways to shrink our footprints. At the end of our Earth Week unit students created an owl explaining why they “give a hoot” about their planet.
To brighten up the classroom we decided to create some tulips to celebrate the start of Spring. We used forks to paint the tops of the tulips (as seen on Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/26880929000544382/ ) and regular thin paint brushes to add the grass and stems.
For Remembrance Day we read several stories about peace. We discussed the poem “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae and created our own images of poppies. We used pastels to create the landscapes and tissue paper to create three dimensional poppies.

As a class we traced our handprints to create a class wreath to contribute to the Remembrance Day assembly.
We made spooky bat fridge magnets out of recycled toilet paper rolls to celebrate Halloween!
