Hello!
I’ve missed my class so much and I’m so so glad to be back! I am also glad to know that the students missed me back. My SA told me that the students were all disappointed (collective “awwwwwww”) when she told them that I wouldn’t be coming last week. It makes me happy to know that they missed me as much as I missed them (and the attachment is mutual — i think).
I read a book to them (as usual) called “My Body” or something like that. The students are learning about their bodies, bones, etc. so the terms presented in the book wasn’t alien to them. I think that they really enjoyed the book. It wasn’t really a story book, more like an information book. Since I didn’t really plan for it, I had to be spontaneous! I think the highlight of the “book reading” was when I read the part about how people have different eye colours, hair colours, hair types, heights, skin colours, etc. The students had a lot of fun comparing and contrasting with their peers. One of my students asked an interesting question about racial segregation. My SA quickly answered that and reminded the students that in the past, that might have been true – but we now know that no matter what the skin colour, or eye colour or anything else, we’re ALL people and we treat ALL people with respect.
I was able to also observe my Grade 1’s StoryBook Workshop with the other Grade 1s. It was really interesting to see all the students together! I felt very teacher-like when I supervised their activities together with the other teachers. I hope to make more connections with the students in the school! I introduced myself as Ms.Ng and by the end of the lesson, they were saying hello and goodbyes to me.
My SA left after lunch so we had a TOC. The TOC was really nice and she gave me a lot of useful tips! I helped out a bit with classroom management and just clearing up what the students are supposed to be doing.
It was a great day 🙂
I’m so excited/nervous/scared/happy for long practicum!!!!
It does sound like a good day! It is great to be able to meet and enjoy other classes of students! It is true, the ten week practicum creates nerves for all who begin it but it flies by, generally with huge learning and enjoyment!!
