My Best English Works

In ENGL301 we completed many writing assignments, each of which serves a different purpose. I have included a pdf link for the following assignments that I believe are my strongest writing pieces.

Defintion Assignment– This assignment required choosing a technical term from our field of study and explain it to an audience without a background in that field. I chose the word “cookies” and provided a parenthetical, sentence and expanded definition. I learned how to adapt my language to explain a term to a different audience.

Formal Report Proposal– I learned how to write a formal report proposal for determining the feasibility of implementing a corporate volunteer program at Collabware Software. The proposal gave me a better idea of what concrete sections I needed to include in the final report and state the purpose of the report.

Complaint and Bad News Letter– The purpose of this assignment was to write a complaint letter regarding an unhappy experience with a company. In addition, I also took on the role of the person who read the complaint and replied to the letter. I wrote about the situation where I got double charged on my credit card. I learned how to demonstrate writing with “YOU” attitude by ensuring that the reader is the most important person in the letter.

Peer Review of Daniel Gipp’s Report Proposal– This is a sample of a peer review with suggestions I wrote for my team member. I learned how to design a template and give positive feedback on the parts where I felt he did well on. In addition, I also provided feedback for further improvements. I used a polite tone throughout the peer review. I learned to incorporate some of the strengths of the writer into my own writing.
