Mark is principal of Illume Investments Inc.   Mark is a value-focused investor based in Vancouver, Canada with a keen interest in global economic issues. Mark believes strongly in empowering others through education and information. Mark works as an independent research consultant, specializing in the financial and commodity sectors. Clients include Vantage Airport Group, The Conference Board of Canada (CBOC), Grant Insights and a macro fund in New York.  Mark has lectured at the University of British Columbia on global food and resource issues, and commodity markets trading.

Recent Work:
Mark recently co-authored a report by the CBOC on how Canada’s Dairy Supply Management can be reformed, which can be downloaded here. The report, “Reforming Dairy Supply Management: The Case for Growth”, has been featured and discussed on main media channels across Canada, including The Globe and MailFinancial PostVancouver Sun,Chronicle HeraldCalgary HeraldMontreal Gazette and Business in Vancouver.  Other recent research includes a paper on Positioning Saskatchewan’s credit unions for growth. Mark has also served as an independent reviewer for various Conference Board reports on Canadian agriculture, business and investments.

As faculty, Mark has been sending UBC graduate student teams for the annual CME trading competition since 2014.  2014 was the first year that UBC had been represented at this competition, which involved 207 schools from 31 different countries.

Before moving to Canada, Mark worked as a derivatives trader (commodities, rates and fx) in Singapore for First Resources Limited, an Indonesian-based Palm Oil business. Before that Mark worked as an equity analyst for Goshen Investments, a Long/Short Equity Fund in New York. In 2007, Mark started his career at Lehman Brothers Investment Management Division, New York.
