About Mlle Whelan

Bonjour! Je m’appelle Cassandra Whelan. I am a student teacher from UBC. I am in the Elementary program in the French Language and Global Studies cohort.

I studied Core French/FSL from grade 5-12 in the BC Public School system. During the summer after grade 11 I spent 5 weeks in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, doing a French-immersion program called Explore (which I highly recommend!). In grade 12 I traveled to France. After I finished my first degree (BSc, Biology from UNBC) I lived in Caraquet, New Brunswick for one year. I worked as an English language assistant in an Acadian (Francophone) school there. During my time on the East Coast I traveled to many Acadian places in New Brunswick, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. I also got to explore many towns in Quebec and was introduced to Québécois culture. Here is a picture of me from Carnaval du Québec (Quebec Winter Carnival).

Being in the French Language cohort this year has given me the opportunity to improve my French and language teaching skills. I am looking forward to spending two weeks teaching French to the grade 7s.
