{"id":14,"date":"2018-09-25T16:15:57","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T23:15:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/moderndesign\/?p=14"},"modified":"2024-04-30T15:57:38","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T22:57:38","slug":"quality-differences-around-the-globe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/moderndesign\/2018\/09\/25\/quality-differences-around-the-globe\/","title":{"rendered":"Quality Differences around the Globe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Why the Quality of Goods varies around the World<\/h1>\n<p>Why are manufactured products such as <a href=\"https:\/\/flushwalldoors.com\">interior doors<\/a> around the world not more consistent?\u00a0 Why, for example, would most people rather buy a German car than one made in Tunisia (I am picking a random African country)?<\/p>\n<p>Why in an ever more connected world is there no consistency of quality?\u00a0 It would certainly seem reasonable that with the internet in place everybody has the same info and could get the same know-how.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, that is not so.<\/p>\n<p>I propose 3 major reasons for continuing gaps in quality of goods.\u00a0 Arranged in order of importance, these are:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Character Traits<\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attitude Towards Money<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Continuing Exploitation<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Character Traits<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>What character traits produce good merchandise?\u00a0 I am sure most people will know or at least, should know this \u2013 for they are the very traits that distinguish good from bad.\u00a0 You can only produce that which you are.<\/p>\n<p>Here is my list of the character traits of a given population of people that will be able to produce a quality product:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Honest<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hard Working and Efficient<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Attention to Detail<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Not Wanting to be Wrong<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Wanting to be Admired<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ashamed when Perceived as Lacking<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Competitive<\/p>\n<p>Now, the opposite traits will logically produce a low quality product.<\/p>\n<p>Character traits are the single most determining factor in quality of products because the product is just an extension of the person.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Attitude Towards Money<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The attitude towards money could be grouped as a trait but I have chosen to make it an individual point because it is a little different and more far reaching.<\/p>\n<p>By \u2018attitude towards money\u2019 I am referring to a person\u2019s sense of how much is enough.\u00a0 How much money do you need to make before you say: \u201cOkay, I will take a rest now because I have enough money (for the day, the month, the year, my life, etc)?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The person that has an absolute sense of how much is enough will produce a higher quality product.\u00a0 You might think that it should be the other way around \u2013 the person who cannot get enough will produce the better product because he works so long and hard, continually striving for more money (success) and, thereby, producing faster and better.<\/p>\n<p>If that were so, Germany would not be a leader in performance machinery; neither would Japan make some of the best cars I know.\u00a0 It is the countries like the USA that have an almost insatiable appetite for more, that produce a less-than-optimal product.\u00a0 The same goes for China or India where people often work long, hard hours without having weekends off and in the end the consumer gets a feel that the articles coming out the countries are mass-produced and mediocre at best.<\/p>\n<p>So, chasing after money will not make you produce better quality items (such as <a href=\"https:\/\/flushwalldoors.com\">Modern Interior Doors<\/a>).\u00a0 In fact, the countries where people value their free time so much that working hours and mandatory free-time are strictly regulated, excel in quality production.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Continuing Exploitation<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lastly, the continuing exploitation of the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> world means that a poor country will not have its efforts rewarded.\u00a0 All the profit coming out of the labour of the people flows to another place \u2013 a vicious cycle that is almost unbreakable.\u00a0 Producing quality products can be possible for any country but in order to get to the point where you can, you cannot have your profits leave the country.\u00a0 This is a physical and emotional problem \u2013 physical because monetary profits are inconsequential and emotional because if you do not see the profit of your labour you lose heart.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, optimal conditions for Quality Produced Goods are as follows:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Character traits that generate shame for anything less than perfection<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The sense to balance the thirst for profit with the need for leisure time<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 An environment that allows for achievements and rewards \u00a0to stay within its borders<\/p>\n<p>Well worth thinking about.<\/p>\n<p>Authors websites:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/flushwalldoors.com\/index.html\">Frameless Doors<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/flushwalldoors.com\/frameless-doors.html\">Invisible Doors<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/flushwalldoors.com\/frameless-doors.html\">Concealed Doors<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why the Quality of Goods varies around the World Why are manufactured products such as interior doors around the world not more consistent?\u00a0 Why, for example, would most people rather buy a German car than one made in Tunisia (I am picking a random African country)?
