In each roundup, I provide a 1-2 sentence summary of Mongolian foreign policy news, most of which come from Mongolian-language news sites. If you have any suggestions for how these posts might be improved, please do let me know.<\/p>\n<p>Please note, that I am not a native Mongolian speaker, nor am I a professional translator. As such, I would welcome any corrections that others might have to offer. Finally, future postings might be delayed during the month of July, as I will be traveling in Mongolia, often in more remote areas. I will resume regular posting in August.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>For summaries of Presidential candidates&#8217; foreign policy proposals, taken straight from their Mongolian-language action plans, please see my previous post, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2013\/2013-foreign-policy-proposals\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Diplomacy<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Director of the Finnish Parliament, Eero Heiniluoma, <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.news.mn\/content\/147429.shtml\">made an official visit to Mongolia<\/a>. During his stay, he met with the head of the Mongolian Khural, Z. Enhbold, and PM N. Altanhuyag to discuss cooperation in the technological and educational sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Foreign Affairs, <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.news.mn\/content\/147849.shtml\">L. Bold, traveled to Japan<\/a> to participate in Japan\u2019s Global Economic Forum-2013.<\/p>\n<p>Interpol\u2019s General Secretary, <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.news.mn\/content\/147855.shtml\">Roland Kennet, traveled to Mongolia<\/a> to meet with Mongolian Minister of Justice, Kh. Temuujin.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Ambassador Greg Goldhawk announced that Canada would now grant up to a <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.news.mn\/content\/147239.shtml\">10 year multiple entry visa to Mongolian citizens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Japan and Mongolia agree to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalpost.com\/dispatch\/news\/kyodo-news-international\/130611\/japan-mongolia-agree-cooperate-over-n-koreas-abduction\">cooperate on issues related to North Korea<\/a>, including abductions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/politics.news.mn\/content\/148399.shtml\">L. Bold traveled to Germany<\/a> to discuss bilateral cooperation in minerals and technology. Mongolia agreed to allow German citizens <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfa.gov.mn\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=2498%3A-30-&amp;catid=43%3A2009-12-20-21-55-03&amp;Itemid=62&amp;lang=mn\">30 days to stay<\/a> in the country for up to 30 days visa-free<\/p>\n<p>Vuk Jeremic, President of the UN General Assembly, made his <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.news.mn\/content\/148482.shtml\">first visit to Mongolia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mongolian auditors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfa.gov.mn\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=2492%3A2013-06-16-09-00-08&amp;catid=43%3A2009-12-20-21-55-03&amp;Itemid=62&amp;lang=mn\">traveled to Turkey to gain experience<\/a> in the legal and technical issues of their field.<\/p>\n<p>Mongolia established <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfa.gov.mn\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=2503%3A2013-06-20-06-29-43&amp;catid=43%3A2009-12-20-21-55-03&amp;Itemid=62&amp;lang=mn\">formal diplomatic relations with Antigua and Barbuda<\/a>. This is part of a larger strategy for Mongolia to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.infomongolia.com\/ct\/ci\/6159\">establish diplomatic relations with all UN member states<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UK-based news agency, The Telegraph, reported that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/politics\/tony-blair\/10108005\/Tony-Blair-strikes-gold-in-Mongolia.html\">Tony Blair is now a consultant for the Mongolian government<\/a>. His experience in international diplomacy at previous consulting in the region under his company, Tony Blair Associates, is stressed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Economics<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mongol Bank released its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mongolbank.mn\/documents\/statistic\/externalsector\/tradebalancereview\/2013\/201305e.pdf\">Trade Review<\/a>, outlining Mongolia\u2019s trade statistics up to May 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Security<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Political Secretary of the Mongolian Ministry of Defense, Gen. Z. Boldbaatar, arrived in Germany for the <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.news.mn\/content\/147759.shtml\">10<sup>th<\/sup> advisory meeting<\/a> between the Mongolian and German defense departments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Ex-Pat Mongolians<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>On June 14<sup>th<\/sup>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mfa.gov.mn\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=2484%3A2013-06-13-11-30-38&amp;catid=43%3A2009-12-20-21-55-03&amp;Itemid=62&amp;lang=mn\">Mongolians living abroad casted their votes<\/a> for the 2013 Mongolian Presidential Election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Below you will find the 3rd posting of our bi-weekly series, entitled &#8220;Foreign Policy Roundup&#8221;.
