In the course of the year, we wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/\">68 new posts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of Google Analytics data of our readership for calendar 2016:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>14,500 readers (all time: 83,000) read over 41,600 pages\n<ul>\n<li>our \u00a0busiest day was June 29, the date of the election with over 600 readers that day alone<\/li>\n<li>returning users make up about 40% of our readers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>1.76 pages per session<\/li>\n<li>just under 2min per session<\/li>\n<li>country shares of readers (location, not language or nationality):\n<ul>\n<li>Mongolia 28%<\/li>\n<li>U.S. 16%<\/li>\n<li>Canada 13%<\/li>\n<li>UK 5%<\/li>\n<li>Australia 4%<\/li>\n<li>Germany 3%<\/li>\n<li>then Japan, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, India&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>most popular posts (with number of readers and authors other than me noted)\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2015\/planning-2016-%D1%83%D0%B8%D1%85-election\/\">Planning for 2016\u00a0\u0423\u0418\u0425 Election<\/a>&#8221; (980) [posted at the end of 2015]<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/mongolian-peoples-party-victory-how-why\/\">Immediate Reactions to MPP Landslide<\/a>&#8221; (930)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/panama-papers\/\">Mongolia in the Panama Papers<\/a>&#8221; (780)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/mongolia-twiplomacy\/\">The Many Habits of Successful Mongolian Digital Diplomats<\/a>&#8221; (610)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/oyu-tolgoi-discovery\/\">The Story of the Discovery of Oyu Tolgoi<\/a>&#8221; (552) by Byambajav D<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/guest-post-questions-about-purchase-of-erdenet-mining\/\">Questions about Purchase of Erdenet Mining<\/a>&#8221; (532) guest post by Lkhagva E<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/mongolian-democracy-in-peril\/\">Democracy in Decline?<\/a>&#8221; (509)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/polling-politbarometer-april-2016\/\">Politbarometer April 2016<\/a>&#8221; (425)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/mining-governance-learning-from-the-erdenet\/\">Mining Governance: Learning from Erdenet<\/a>&#8221; (378) by Mendee J<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/resource-nationalism\/\">Resource Nationalism?<\/a>&#8221; (331)<\/li>\n<li>Not surprisingly, the majority of these posts were related to politics and the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/category\/politics\/elections\/ikh-khural-2016\/\">2016 election<\/a> and to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/category\/politics\/mining\/\">mining<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The all-time most-read post is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2012\/corruption-transparency-international\/\">Corruption in Mongolia According to Transparency International<\/a>&#8221; (1,500+)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Just over half of our readers find us through web searches, just under 20% arrive via social media.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Comparing to 2015<\/h2>\n<p>If we compare to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/blog-in-2015\/\">2015<\/a>, our readership has remained roughly stable, though this year&#8217;s readers read more posts.<\/p>\n<p>There were more Chinese readers this year.<\/p>\n<p>Social media referrals are up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Julian Dierkes In the sixth calendar year of the existence of this blog, we were once again very happy to find a significant number of readers.
