We smashed through our 600th post this year. Most notably we were recognized through a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2019\/cess-public-outreach-award\/\">Public Outreach Award from the Central Eurasian Studies Society<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/about-mongolia-focus\/about-mendee\/\">Mendee<\/a> defended his PhD. I&#8217;d say, we&#8217;re going strong!<\/p>\n<h2>Blog Readers<\/h2>\n<p>Google Analytics is an endless fountain of detailed information, it&#8217;s also a potential time sink, so here are some highlights of our readership in the past year:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>just under 15,000 readers generated over 35,000 pageviews<\/li>\n<li>the top 10 origin countries of readers are\n<ul>\n<li>Mongolia 22.5%<\/li>\n<li>U.S. 22%<\/li>\n<li>Canada 8.9%<\/li>\n<li>UK 5.1%<\/li>\n<li>Australia 4.1%<\/li>\n<li>Germany 3.4%<\/li>\n<li>China 2.5%<\/li>\n<li>Japan 2.3%<\/li>\n<li>India 2%<\/li>\n<li>South Korea 1.8%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Most-read (500+ page views) posts this year:\n<ul>\n<li>Connor Judge and Sanchir Jargalsaikhan&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2019\/obor-bri-mongolia-sco-neasia\/\">guest post on BRI<\/a>\u00a0(1,400 views)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/about-mongolia-focus\/about-batdorj-bulgan\/\">Bulgan<\/a>\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/foreign-languages-mongolians\/\">How popular is Russian in Mongolia 26 Years After the Fall of the Soviet Union?<\/a>\u201d (2016; 1,360+ readers this year)<\/li>\n<li>My post together with Boldsaikhan Sambuu &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2019\/judicial-appointments-national-security-council\/\">The Beginning of the End of Democracy?<\/a>&#8221; (800 views)<\/li>\n<li>My very <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2019\/scenarios-for-2020-election-uix-parlement\/\">early outlook on the 2020 parliamentary election<\/a> (530 views)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/about-mongolia-focus\/about-batdorj-bulgan\/\">Bulgan<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/mongolia\/2016\/foreign-languages-mongolians\/\">post about foreign languages<\/a> remains by the far the most-read post with over 4,300 total pageviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Outlook<\/h2>\n<p>In the past, we have been very active during national elections and these activities have brought significantly more readers than in non-election years. The 2020 parliamentary election promises to be quite interesting, especially in terms of any expressions of voters&#8217; frustration for example by supporting new political movements, but also in terms of the evolution of party structures (will the DP implode? will the MPP actually see a generational turnover?).
